Description
a most exceptional and unusual pair of jade earrings. The drops orignally formed part of another piece of jewellery, maybe a tiara or headpiece, as each is drilled at the side with a tiny inconspicuous hole for wiring to a frame. The silver-gilt fittings date from when the drops were converted to earrings, probably in the 1920s, for European consumption. The thick drops are a natural translucent mottled pale green. Total length 3 1/2 inches: 9 cms.
