Beautifully made 19th century cameo brooch, inset with a finely carved shell cameo of an angel carrying a child, set in an elaborately pierced and chased silver on gold border, set with small rubies and seed pearls. A small loop at the top would allow it to be worn as a pendant, though originally for attaching a safety chain. Overall size 2 x 1 5/8 inches: 5 x 4.3 cms
