Scottish grotesque head snuff mull


An unusual Scottish carved horn snuff mull in the form of a grotesque creature, with inset silver eyes and a highly polished finish. It has a tightly-fitting hinged flap at the back, and although intended for snuff, could also be used for pills or whatever. Hard to date, but probably early to mid-nineteenth century. One foot has been broken off. Height approximately 2 3/4 inches: 7 cms
