EDWARDIAN PENDANT WATCH
An example of Edwardian jewellery at its finest, a superbly made and designed pendant watch in diamonds, platinum and enamel, with a Swiss movement, signed on the dial by Agassiz, the Swiss retailer. It was the use of platinum, an extremely hard metal, that from the end of the 19th century allowed jewellers to produce work with the finest of settings, and the hand-saw-pierced tracery of this watch demanded the highest standard of workmanship from the jeweller and the diamond setter, combined with pale blue translucent enamel with a honeycomb background. The watch retains its original platinum chain terminating in a ring set with rose-cut diamonds. The watch alone is approximately 1 3/4 inches: 48 mm top to bottom, and the chain length from the ring is 13 inches: 35 cms.
