SHELL CAMEO OF BACCHUS

£0

Finely carved bull's mouth shell cameo of a somewhat effeminate Bacchus, identified by the grapevines in his hair, circa 1840, probably carved in Torre del Greco, near Naples, still the current centre of cameo production in Italy. It is in an attractive gilt-metal mount with fleur-de-lys motifs. It is 2 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches: 63 x 57 mm overall.
